I was contacted for an interview by Voyage Chicago, a media company who highlights the best of Chicago, for their Thought-Provokers series celebrating artists and creatives! So exciting!! Though I don’t live in Chicago, I have shown and exhibited my work there quite a few times, and have friends and collectors in the area. I like visiting a lot . . . I love that city!
Here’s the link to my interview: Check Out Valerie Ostenak’s Artwork . They have pix of me and lots of my art. It was fun answering the questions . . . I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I liked participating!
This is the third exhibition in the “We Are Snag series.” (Up)Setting the Stone is an online exhibition focused on the setting. You may not give the setting a lot of thought, but the setting was an important aspect in some of the earliest known jewelry pieces. Thousands of variations are based on a few different techniques. This very prestigious exhibition is juried by well-known jewelry artists, George Sawyer and Laura Wood. This collection of exquisite works extends to jewelry, objects, vessels and sculpture.
This neckpiece is comprised of hot forged steel and flourite.
Clicking on the link above will take you to Valerie’s page at the SNAG exhibition site and provide you with a full description of her art form and artist statement.
We are proud of Valerie and her latest accomplishment!
In the midst of Chicago partying like it was 1908, from the Cub’s World Series victory, VOSTENAKstudios celebrated its sculptural art jewelry showing with the Maria Elena Kravetz Gallery at Navy Pier as part of SOFA. The Sculptural Objects Functional Art + Design Fair, produced by Urban Expositions drew thousands of visitors snaking their way through the booths of nearly 70 prestigious galleries.
“It was a wonderful show,” said Valerie Ostenak, owner VOSTENAKstudios. “I am deeply grateful for the experience, the wonderful weather, and hospitality in Chicago.”
The emerging Buddha sculpture represents a symbol of peace and self-realization; when placed in unexpected public spaces it becomes a global symbol of peace. The installation is an invitation to reflect on the possibility of finding peace in our lives and in our communities. The Buddha images serve as a visual platform for the Ten Thousand Ripples project, a collaborative public art and civic engagement initiative, led by Changing Worlds in partnership with diverse Chicago neighborhoods, and many community partners and local artists.
